Prepare for Your Child’s First Visit to the Dentist – Have Fun With Dr. Eisenberg

When to Take Your Child for First Visit to the Dentist

Bring your child in for their first dental visit after their third birthday or earlier if recommended by your doctor.

You don’t have to take special steps to prepare your child for his or her first visit to the dentist at Brooklyn Dental smiles.  The first visit is a chance for your child to acclimate to the dentist’s office and dental examinations as well as an opportunity for the parents to get to know the dentist. At Brooklyn Dental Smiles, Dr. Eisenberg strives to ensure that your child’s first dental visit is fun and fear-free.

Dr. Eisenberg recommends bringing your child for their first visit to the dentist at three years old, or when recommended by your pediatrician.

What Dr. Eisenberg will do during your child’s first visit to the dentist

Most importantly, your child’s first dental visit is a chance for the dentist to evaluate your child’s dental health and hygiene from the earliest point. The dentist will give you personalized instructions on how to start brushing your child’s teeth and other recommended hygiene habits such as limiting use of bottled beverages at night. He will examine your child’s teeth to assess their current risk for cavities and recommend any necessary treatments, such as fluoride. The dentist will advise you on when you should begin to bring your child in for regular dental cleanings and check-ups based on your child’s current dental health.

The best prevention is a timely intervention.

Starting out on the right foot with an early childhood dental visit sets up your child for good dental hygiene and cavity prevention from the earliest age. Your child’s baby teeth are important for speech and jaw development. Their health will determine the placement and spacing of adult teeth when they grow in. The dental hygiene habits that your children learn today are those that will protect your child’s adult teeth when they grow older.
